Lean Inking® We feel proud to release more details about Lean Inking®, the latest effective innovation in flexo technology, developed by MPS. Every production manager in the narrow web printing industry knows the advantages and disadvantages of open and closed inking systems on flexo presses. Advantages of a closed chamber blade can be the low volume of ink required in the total system and the increased control over ink spitting. However, closed doctor blades can also introduce other problems such as ink foaming and a rising temperature of the ink during production, resulting in instable densities. Furthermore, many closed chamber blade systems are leaking during machine stand-still and therefore need to be cleaned at the end of the day. And the cleaning of a chamber blade can be much less convenient than the cleaning of the simple and no-nonsense open system that is used by MPS on the known EP, EF and EC press lines. For the new EF press-line, MPS has developed an effective chamber inking system, combining the advantages of the open and closed systems at the same time. This is the next step in improved automation of the flexo printing process. No need anymore for metering roller or negative doctor blade and good bye to any form of ink spitting and misting! Lean Inking® has the following benefits: •  No ink spitting, also not with very high viscosity inks! •  No ink mist, also not with very low viscosity inks! •  Auto ink level control, ensuring trouble free ink managment •  Reduced ink content in the system (less than 300 ml) •  Possitive doctor blade positioning; diminishing wear of doctor blades •  Automatic pressure control; no need for readjusting doctor blades during operation •  Longer lifetime of anilox rollers •  No ink leaking during machine stand-still Traditional blade changing takes about 2 minutes per print station. And more importantly, it generates unpredictable additional material waste when changing or readjusting during production. Not with Lean Inking® by MPS. MPS maintained it's design of the extremely easy handeling of the anilox rollers. On all MPS presses you can use the proven ultra-light anilox roller technology and you do not need to switch to an anilox sleeve system, with the challenges of special handling and cleaning procedures on the press.
